The time away from competitive off road racing certainly hasn’t dulled Shannon Rentsch’s senses; the five time Australian Off Road Champion topping the prologue time sheets and bringing the #33 Jimco home in second outright after today’s 85km one lap section.

The son and father team of Shannon and Ian Rentsch put in a mammoth prologue attempt, clocking in the fastest time of 8minutes 44.796seconds, a lead of 5seconds over Travis Robinson and Paul Currie. However, after the running of the top ten shoot out, the SR Racing Jimco was relegated to fourth on the start grid after spinning out backwards near Christies Hill, losing valuable time.

Following the early withdrawal of Travis Robinson with computer failure, the front runners stayed true and finished the one lap section in the road order as they started. Rentsch was able to pull in 6 seconds on the #1 Snap SMU Racing Jimco to claim second outright and second on the start grid for Sunday’s section two.

Shannon commented after today’s competition “the car was really good. I thought we did well in the prologue after nearly 12 months out of racing.”

The SR Racing team are aiming for the outright win; to write their names in the history books as the final winners at the Smithy’s Place grand finale.
