Jack Rhodes has started his 2015 off road racing campaign with an outright victory at this weekend’s running of the ARB Griffith 400, giving the young racer back to back Griffith titles.Rhodes and navigator David Pullio took full advantage of their lead after the withdrawal yesterday of the fastest qualifier and previous event winner Glenn Owen with head gasket dramas, to drive from strength to strength and secure the outright win in the Fuchs Rhodes Racing Jimco #91, finishing the 400kilometres with a lead of 5m37seconds to the second placed John Towers and Bruce Young #27. Rhodes’ weekend was not without his own dramas, suffering from turbo failure at the completion of the prologue. After a quick replacement he was able to front the start line for section one.The fight for the final place on the podium went down to the wire, with Greg Gartner and Jamie Jennings #410 edging out Mark Burrows and Colin Hodge Jimco #21 by just 1.3 seconds. Aaron and Liz Haby were a further 3m27second back to round out the top five outright finishers at the 2015 ARB Griffith 400.The dry and dusty conditions were managed with the one at a time one minute interval starts throughout the weekend and the introduction of a parc ferme before the restart of lap four, the last lap, until the back runners were well into their third lap, ensured most competitors had a reasonable dust free race.
